Kokilaben Ambani, mother of industrialists Mukesh and Anil Ambani, was admitted to HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai late Thursday after a sudden deterioration in her health.
According to people familiar with the matter, the 91-year-old was transported by air ambulance under emergency arrangements. Senior doctors at the hospital are currently supervising her treatment, though details about her medical condition have not been disclosed.
Soon after her admission, members of the Ambani family were seen arriving at the hospital. Mukesh Ambani was spotted traveling directly from Kalina airport, while other family members also rushed in later that night. The family has so far refrained from issuing an official statement.
Well-wishers across the country have taken to social media to pray for Kokilaben’s recovery. Given her age and her role as the matriarch of one of India’s most powerful business families, the news has drawn wide public attention.
Kokilaben, the widow of Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani, has long been considered a unifying figure within the family. She was instrumental in guiding her children through the division of the Reliance empire after her husband’s death in 2002, and has remained an influential presence in the family’s social and philanthropic initiatives.
As of Friday morning, doctors were continuing to monitor her condition closely. More information is expected once the family or the hospital releases an official update.
